THE MAKABLE WAY

You don’t have to be
“musical” to begin.

You just need a place to start.

Music can be playful, social and full of discovery. We build encouraging experiences where learners can try things, make mistakes and enjoy making music together.

Our approach combines flexible pacing, hands-on learning and small-group connection. Private instruction has a place here, too—there’s more than one way to find your sound.

SMALL NOTES. BIG FEELINGS.

A whole song.
A shared achievement.

Marimba ensembles are a special part of Makable. Scott’s original teaching resources help groups of beginners work toward playing songs together, creating an early sense of accomplishment.

Each person brings a part. Together, it becomes music.

OUR STORY

From Kimmirut.
With a Cape Breton heart.

Makable Music is built on a simple belief: making music should be something more people get to experience.

THE WORK TODAY

Music in Kimmirut

Makable Inc. operates a structured music education program in Kimmirut, Nunavut, with approximately 80 student lessons scheduled each week. Group playing, supportive instruction and community connection are at the heart of the work.

That hands-on experience is shaping the next chapter: a welcoming music studio and community outreach program in Sydney, Nova Scotia.

MEET THE PEOPLE

Scott & Katie MacLean

Scott is a music educator, songwriter and member of Cape Breton band Pretty Archie. A 2012 graduate of NSCC’s Music Arts program, he brings years of teaching and professional performing experience across a range of instruments.

Katie brings experience as a teacher, instructional coach and vice-principal, alongside a business degree and a background in event coordination. Her planned role spans administration, program development and community partnerships.

THE NEXT CHAPTER • SYDNEY, NOVA SCOTIA

A place to learn.
A reason to come together.

We’re developing a studio where lessons, after-school groups, camps and community music can live under one roof. We also see room to grow into family sessions, instrument rentals and creative gatherings.
